William Chapman:
Hello, I my name is William Chapman. I started doing reenacting when I was about eight years old. At the time, I was involved in Revolutionary War reenacting. When I was twelve years old, I made the switch to Civil War reenacting and living history. Having always had an interest in the uniforms and equipment of the civil war, I started researching at an early age. Currently, I am a drummer with the Signal Corps, but I am often involved with other units. Last year, I started the Young Campaigner as a website where authentic-minded young people such as myself to get together online and have a community where they can share research and ideas. Currently, I live in the state of Virginia. I had ancestors who fought for the Confederacy from Virignia and Georgia. I am on the Authentic Campaigner, Civil War Reenactors' Forum, and Living History Worldwide. Also, see my Flickr photostream.
Sincerely,
Pvt. William H. Chapman

Greetings from the Old North State!
My name is Chessa Swing, and I am the newest guest author to this website.
I have loved history for as long as I can remember, but my interest in the Civil War started about 6 years ago, when I was 10 years old. After telling my parents for 4 years that I wanted "to live like people back then", I began actively looking at how to involve myself in Living History. Although I began searching for a group who portrayed the Revolutionary War period (an older love), I soon found the perfect group for me in Civil War reenacting.
In the past 3 years, I've developed an interest in authentic clothing and headwear, as well as the different social classes. I find that the lower working classes are my favorite to portray, although I do enjoy dressing in silk and being "wealthy" for the weekend. I am currently involved in portraying the years 1847-1865, but hope to add 1770's and 80's to that in the near future.
I'm excited to contribute to this great website!
Your Humble Servant,
Chessa Swing
Andrew Turner:

I've lived in North Carolina my whole life. I have had an interest in the Civil War for as long as I can remember. I took this interest to the next level when I began reenacting in 2004 at the age of 9 with Co.D 27th North Carolina Troops. When I first started reenacting I had little knowledge about uniforms and equipment, but as soon as I had "jined up" I began to want to do things as accurately as possible. I am now 13 and I have even more of a drive to experience the experience of a Civil War soldier. I do both Federal and Confederate impressions and I have ancestors who fought on both sides of the greatest conflict in American history. It is my goal to teach others about this war and to aid people in their quest for authenticity.
Hurrah for the Old North State!

Hello all!
I am a new guest author for this web site. Just to tell you a little about myself and how I got into Civil War reenacting. My interest was sparked by a 2nd grade project on the Civil War. That same year I made my first of many trips to Gettysburg which got me studying the battle and the Civil War more. The next year I attended a Civil War reenactment in my hometown. Watching the reenactors made me want to do what they were doing. So in eighth grade my neighbor, a Civil War reenactor, came to my class to give a presentation. That day I asked how to join and he got me in his unit. They were the 42nd PA or better known as the Bucktails. I my second year of reenacting my neighbor went away to school in NC. I started not doing as many reenactments with the bucktials. When he was in NC he joined a group called the Liberty Rifles, a unit based out of the atlantic coast and other parts of the US. So I joined them in the winter and am now 16 years old and in my 3rd year of reenacting and my first with the Liberty Rifles. Just this past weekend I got home from a film shoot for the film, Gettysburg: Darkest days and finest hours. So thats just a little about me and my reenacting career and I can't wait to write future articles for The Young Campaigner.
Sincerely,
Tyler McHone
